The TUF range from Asus is comprised of comparatively affordable gaming laptops, and we have already reviewed several models from this range. The model on the test bench today, the FXDT, is already the fourth As the FXDT is in terms of build exactly the same as previously reviewed models from the FX range, we will not go in-depth into the chassis, general config, display and speakers in this article.
The matte Brightness Positive: The display shows no signs of PWM flickering. The display is also of the IPS variety, with good viewing angles - the same as in two of its sibling models previously reviewed by us. The values do vary a little, however this is normal - apparently, identical display panels will differ from one another ever so slightly. If PWM was detected, an average of minimum: 5 - maximum: Hz was measured. The pre-installed Armory Crate Control Center provides options for performance and power consumption.
Available modes are 'Quiet', 'Balanced', 'Turbo' and 'Windows'. If the latter mode is enabled, Windows takes over power management. This option was chosen for our benchmarking. The multi-threaded benchmark Cinebench initially ran for a short period at 3. The single-threaded tests ran at between 1. This was on mains power - in battery mode, the CPU ran at 2. The performance difference is more noticeable in the single-threaded benchmarks compared to multi-threaded.
By using a looped run of Cinebench R15's multi-threaded benchmark for at least 30 minutes, we test whether or not the CPU is able to sustain longer periods of time with turbo boost. The results dropped somewhat between the 5th and 6th runs and then stayed at a constant level - CPU turbo boost was in operation.
If 'Turbo' mode is selected in the Armory Create Center, the APU deliveres slightly better results due to the fact that it runs at somewhat increased clock rates. The opposite is true if 'Quiet' mode is activated, but with the positive side effect that noise is significantly reduced.
The system runs smoothly and without issue, and no problems were noted by us. This was borne out by the good results in PC Mark - checking the comparison chart, we see that most of the competition do beat out the Asus laptop, which can be attributed to their significantly more powerful Intel CPUs. Increasing overall performance is possible however by installing a second RAM module. This would enable dual-channel RAM mode. Asus has installed only one module and thus the laptop runs in single-channel mode.
With default config and installation, approximately GB is available as the rest is used by the OS installation and recovery partition. In terms of overall capacity, this This GPU belongs to the upper-midrange and is based on the Turing architecture. This is able to boost up to 1, MHz. This value is however able to be exceeded if power and temperature conditions allow and do not exceed set parameters.
We registered a maximum of 1, MHz, although this was only achieved for a short time. As the successor to the GTX , it exceeds that model's performance significantly. The hardware configuration of the Asus TUF is able to play all games in our database fluidly - generally full HD and middle-to-high quality settings can be selected, and in some cases this can also be raised a notch.
Only games with very low hardware requirements are able to be played at these resolutions. Through activation of dual-channel memory mode by installing another RAM module further performance gains are possible. An overall estimation of the possible performance gain cannot be made however, as the increase differs from game to game, which resolution is used and the quality settings.
The comparison chart shows how much performance gain was realised in the games that we tested. For frequent gamers, investing in a second memory module definitely makes sense. There are two reasons for this - firstly, the Nitro has two memory modules and runs in dual-channel mode and secondly, it has a stronger CPU. By activating dual-channel mode the gap between the two models narrows noticeably.
The higher performance of the CPU in the Nitro 5 is most noticeable at lower resolutions and quality settings. In order to test whether or not the laptop is capable of keeping frame rates in games at a constant level, we run the game " The Witcher 3 " for around 60 minutes in full HD and at maximum quality settings.
During the entire test, the player character is not moved. We did not notice any drop in performance over this time. The laptop has comparatively low energy consumption and only gets moderately warm. Not so good is the somewhat miserly connectivity included. AMD Ryzen 5 H 4 x 2. Asus homepage Asus notebook section.

It features optimized settings for games, sports, and movies, and has a built-in equalizer for additional fine-tuning. All ports are situated on the left side of the laptop so there's nothing to interfere with right-handed mousing.
You can easily change settings for both and define up to four game profiles that automatically make adjustments when you launch your favorite titles. Verified Purchase. Lengthy review but worth the read, because it covers all you need to know about this laptop and explains why this is a good buy in for gamers and content creators on a budget. Its definitely a good buy even for 60k coz prices keep fluctuating daily. Sometimes the price reaches a whopping 73k for which you could go for rog strix or Lenovo legion if you have the budget. Also, do not go for the newer tuf a15 series right now, because it has some serious thermal issues and worser display than this series in terms of gaming, eventhough it provides much powerful 4th gen amd CPUs.
Now to the laptop : Ryzen 7 h is certainly powerful for daily tasks and has similar performance to i5 8th gen laptops, if not higher. I usually do small programming tasks and light gaming. Everything is a breeze from Ms word to using chrome. I bought this laptop because it has good performance to price ratio. Also for gaming, gtx can run most games before at ultra settings with fps in turbo mode.
I tested AC4 at ultra graphics and it had few stutters here and there. But at high settings, the game performed fairly smooth. Also I checked splinter cell blacklist and nfs rivals at ultra graphics in turbo mode. Both were buttery smooth. All games above are played in turbo mode, which needs charger to be plugged in.
On battery you can go upto performance mode which can result in a frame drop of fps. But since on performance mode fan is slower, more heating will occur and game will lag on long gaming sessions. So it is advisable to play on plugged in turbo mode for a cooler and smoother gameplay experience. In turbo mode fan is quite loud but manageable. That's about gaming. But it is not a problem at all as the display is sharp and provides good viewing angles along with antiglare.
The display is a little bit dim at nits, but okay for outdoor use at maximum brightness. Since it has a large display The keyboard is great to look at and type on, with good key travel. There are color mode in the RGB keyboard like rainbow, static, strobing, breathing; available in armory crate. WASD keys have a different accent to easily identify the keys.
Laptop build is not exactly military grade, but pretty decent tough plastic. There is little to no flex in keyboard area and palm rest but display has a bit of flex which is normal. Design of the laptop is great, especially the back panel and red speaker accent. There is ample palm rest space but the trackpad is a little disappointing.
It flexes more than normal, and has no separate left and right buttons. So you can't click them both at once, especially important in shooter games. You can use a mouse instead. But the upside is that you get microsoft precision trackpad which is accurate and supports lots of cool gestures.
Speaker is bit on the lower side and lacks bass, but you can tweak the Equalizer settings in realtek audio app for more bass. The loudness is average and don't expect any better quality in this price range. But you can use headphones and use the dtx dolby sound feature for immersive sound experience.
Webcam is of potato quality, which is a trend generally seen this budget. It can record videos in p and microphone quality is OK. I have run into some problems and bugs with Windows 10, which is a problem for most Windows users. They say updates can fix it, but its better to not update Windows soon as they appear, as they contain lots of bugs. Try to troubleshoot first, if you find any problems. If it persists, then try contacting customer service or update Windows.
Battery is 64wh and lasts 2 hours max on gaming. On normal to medium usage, I get around hrs. Dont expect much but some users have reported to get 8hrs on light usage. Also, it takes below 1. The downside is that the adapter tends to heat up a lot sometimes, especially during gaming, which is quite alarming.
I just unplug it if it becomes too hot, because it can damage the adapter sooner on prolonged usage. But on performance mode unplugged mode the fans are slow, so you can expect it to heat up quite a lot. But, who games on battery these days, so it won't be an issue for gamers. Other than that there are no heating issues in normal usage.
There is an intake below the laptop; two out vents on the backside which are located near the cpu and gpu fans and one vent on top of the keyboard in front of the display. The ram present is 8gb ddr4 single chanel. It has an extra slot for ram and can be upgraded to dual channel for better performance.

The logs below show what to expect in terms of performance and inner temperatures with daily chores like browsing, text-editing, and watching movies. The Ryzen 7 H processor settled for clock speeds of 3. There are no methods of undervolting or tweaking this CPU, at least none that I know of, so we had to settle with what we could get with out-of-the-box settings. The performance is capped on battery on Balanced, as Turbo is disabled on battery , with the CPU being capped at its stock clock speed of 2.
Further performance gains should be possible with a slight GPU undervolt possible with MSI Afterburner that will help lower the high temperatures and alleviate the Power related limitations. However, gaming on the Silent profile is pretty much not an option on this laptop, as both the CPU and GPU clock to low frequencies, which leads to unplayable FPS counts in most titles. Ideally, the fans would spin faster on the Turbo profile, and the system would give users the flexibility to juggle with thermals, performance and noise levels by opting between the Silent, Balanced and Turbo modes.
Perhaps the explanation is in the unusual air intake design, with very limited admission cuts on the bottom and most of the fresh air coming in from the sides and from the top, from above the keyboard. The laptop runs quietly with daily use, both on the Silent and the Balanced profiles. The fans remain active, but spin quietly at around 38 dB at head-level, which only makes them audible in a completely silent environment. The speakers on this unit are about average in terms of volume, at up to 76 dB at head-level, and somewhat subpar in terms of quality.
The actuals chambers are small, the sound comes through narrow cuts on the sides and is rather tinny, with little on the low-end, but alright mids and highs. The FXDU keeps the ability to output surround sound to headphones and external speakers through the 3. The camera is placed on top of the screen, flanked by microphones, and offers decent shots in well-lit rooms, but fairly washed out. This configuration comes with a W power-brick, but actually a compact one for its capacity.
That suggests that lower-end variants could be available in the US at some point. That pretty much wraps up our review of the Asus TUF Gaming FX, but feel free to drop your impressions, feedback, and questions in the comments section down below. Is it posible to mount 15mm disk i this notebook? How many RAM modules tou can insert on pictures it looks like only one slot , Is it posible to mount two 16GB modules or there is only one slot for aditional ram and you need 16GB version to upgrade to 32GB?
Depending on what page you visit and what special offers they have, you can find it between euros. The ultra settings are for me as for most users a non issue. For the average user, this machine will run pretty much everything they throw at it,and then it will ask for more.
Back with another comment. Just bought the laptop. The 15" one, it flies, I just need to put another 8 gigs of ram to have 16 and maybe get a bigger drive, this comes with only a ssd. Thing is, while the hardware is actually quite good, I did a few stress tests, no throttling, nothing. The software is abysmal. I still can't get any decent fan control to work, I downloaded all the official drivers from asus, some work, some don't. Fan control, colour change for the keys, they won't work. I even updated the bios in hopes of getting better results, nope, still no luck.
And I really do need the fan control to work, otherwise the fans generate a tremendous amount of noise, just while watching a movie. As if I was playing tomb raider on max settings or something. The colour changing for the keys is also an annoyance, you can either have them on or off, but you can't change them to stick to one single colour, they keep randomly changing every few seconds, and it can be an eyesore. I have a 32" monitor connected to the laptop, here comes another issue.
I could find no solution to make both the laptop screen and the monitor screen to start at the same time. On my older laptop this worked perfectly. Now suddenly I find myself in the position of having to wait for the laptop to enter windows, and only then does my monitor come on,till then,it gives no signal. If I have some issues to solve in bios, I always need to look at the smaller screen of the laptop, while my big screen is blank.
The vega gpu has no special software that I know of, so nothing like intel hd control panel with intel cpus, it would not bother me as much, however the laptop selects by default vega 10 for itself while in idle,as in non gaming, but at the same time my secondary screen, the 32"monitor is automatically selected for the nvidia ti, so far I found no solution to make them both stay in idle on vega That way even if I have no fan control software that actually works, as long as for basic tasks the laptop uses the vega 10 and the fans heat up only in gaming, I'm ok with it.
There are reviews on youtube concerning this issue with this laptop model, and most of them say almost 5 hours in optimal conditions while browsing, watching videos etc. For me this isn't an issue as I bought this laptop for the price, I even got it at a discount, Ron is Euro, at that price nothing comes even close to this tuf Before buying I also saw the model reviewed here the tuf , but it's way more expensive and the 60hz screen in is just NO.
